A 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit the Northern Bay Area in California on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Reports say that at least 70 people were taken to hospital. There were also several reports of gas leaks, water line breakage, fire, and power outage. Two major injuries have been reported, and hospitals have been very busy with moderate injuries, Napa Division Fire Chief John Callanan said earlier. A TransAsia Airways plane crashed in Taiwan on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency. The plane was reportedly carrying 54 passengers and four crew members. The Batangas quake registered at magnitude 5.7 by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) was tectonic in origin. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) say that the earthquake has a depth of 36 kilometers at 27 degrees west of Batangas. Metro Manila residents also felt the quake at intensity 3. PHIVOLCS is expecting aftershocks to follow. As of posting, there was no report of any damage to properties and no tsunami alert was raised. Computers were being blamed for the delay of several flights in the Los Angeles area on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. The computer problem affected several airports that include the Los Angeles International, third busiest airport in the US. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) explained that there was a failure in their air traffic computer system called, En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) system. Some flights were diverted to Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City while others were grounded.
