The 2014 NBA All Star Weekend started with the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night, February 14, 2014. Team Hill beat Team Webber, 142-136, behind the heroics of Andre Drummond.

Drummond led Team Hill to victory with 30 points and 25 rebounds, a Rising Stars record. He almost single-handedly beat Team Webber at the boards, who only managed 28 rebounds.

The Detroit Pistons big man was voted as the MVP of the 2014 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge.

Drummond explained that his “mindset was to come out and play with energy, like I’ve been doing all year. I had my mind set to win the MVP, so I went out there and did it.”

It was a high-scoring Rising Stars game with most of the shots taken from the three-point area.

Drummond’s teammate Dion Waters added 4-for-6 from the 3-point area and had 31 points and seven assists.

Tim Hardaway Jr. of Team Webber shot 7-for-16 from beyond the arc and had a game-high 36 points.
