A rare albino wels catfish, weighing about 206-pounds, was caught by British fisherman Bernie Campbell in River Ebro near Barcelona, Spain.
It took seven years before the 54-year-old Campbell got the chance to finally snatch a rare catfish.
According to expert anglers, Campbell’s 8-feet-long albino wels catfish could set a world record.
John Dankin of CatMaster Tours told Daily Mail that they “had two or three big albino catfish out of the river, but none that has topped 200 pounds. Albino catfish of that size are very rare indeed. This is the biggest we’ve ever seen. It was a very special fish.”
Campbell used special pellets for bait and a 1,800-feet of super-strength fishing line.
If Campbell’s catch will be recognized, then it will surpass the 196-pound that was landed last year.
Campbell said that “The record could stand for 10 minutes or it could stand for 10 years. But for me it’s going to take a long time to beat this fish.”
