Typhoon Glenda Triggers Suspension of Classes

The latest PAGASA weather update indicated that Typhoon Glenda (international codename: Rammasun) was spotted at 620 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes on Monday, July 14, 2014. Typhoon Glenda is reportedly heading into the Bicol region and western part of Luzon at 28 kph.

Due to Typhoon Glenda, PAGASA raised storm signal no. 2 in the areas of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon. PAGASA alerted residents to be ready for strong winds that could reach 60 kph and up to 100 kph.

Signal number one was also raised in the following areas:

  • Pangasinan
  • Southern Aurora
  • Burias Island
  • Marinduque
  • Quezon including Polilio Island
  • Metro Manila
  • Batangas
  • Cavite
  • Laguna
  • Rizal
  • Bulacan
  • Pampanga
  • Bataan
  • Zambales
  • Tarlac
  • Nueva Ecija

On Sunday night, Typhoon Glenda entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Classes in Camarines Sur and Albay were already suspended by local authorities. The City of Manila have also suspended classes in all public and private elementary schools and preschools.
